Silhavy, s.r.o. (SY) understands the importance of protecting any personal information are collected from our authors or reviewers and anyone who engages with our products and services. To comply with applicable privacy laws, and with the General Data Protection Regulation law (valid in EU countries), SY has taken steps to deepen commitment to data privacy and ensure we maintain the security, integrity and privacy of personal data, which are collected and processed.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

GDPR is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU).

The aim of GDPR is to protect all EU citizens and residents from privacy and data breaches in an increasingly data-driven world. Although the key principles of data privacy remain, there are a number of significant changes concerning the way organizations share and collect different types of personal data in a world where this data is richer than ever.

How Silhavy, s.r.o. use your data

When you submit (as author or co-author), or review a manuscript in a publication that is organised or published by SY, your name, email address, affiliation, and other contact details will be used for the regular operations of the publication including proceedings, books or journals delivering. This includes sharing data with partners involved in the production, publication, and shipping process of the manuscripts.

SY uses of your personal information is based on our “legitimate interest” in providing you with additional information and direct advertising about our services (under Article 6 sec. 1 sent. 1 lit. f, sec. 4 of the GDPR regulations). You can let SY know that you would prefer not to receive direct marketing by e-mail at any time, simply by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided in this e-mail and in any other marketing e-mail in the future. If you do so, we will not use your personal information for direct marketing purposes.

We have practices in place to ensure that steps are taken to maintain the security, integrity, and privacy of the personal data collected and processed. Our publishing or shipping partners have their own policies and practices in place.

Cookies and website

SY uses cookies on our website. Cookies identify your computer rather than you as an individual user. They are little text files that are temporarily stored on your computer by your browser. SY sites use them to generate statistics (website traffic, IP addresses, google analytics, identify visitor domains, identify visited pages). Their purpose is to optimize the overall web site experience. The personal data automatically collected is necessary for us to provide the website, Article 6 sec. 1 sent. 1 lit. b GDPR, and for our legitimate interest to guarantee the website’s stability and security, Article 6 sec. 1 sent. 1 lit. f GDPR. Personal data that is collected automatically is anonymized immediately and any personally identifiable information is properly erased.

What kind of information does SY collect?
Whatever is necessary for the operations of a conference, including peer review and publication. This includes names, affiliations, email addresses, signature and other contact details as required by a publication.

What does SY do with my contact details?
We use them for publication purposes, publish them with the article, and send them with the article to Abstracting and Indexing services SY uses of your personal information is based on our “legitimate interest” in providing you with additional information and direct advertising about our services (under Article 6 sec. 1 sent. 1 lit. f, sec. 4 of the GDPR regulations). How long does SY store my contact details?
For the regular operations of a publication, contact details are stored in editorial or accountant systems as long as publication activities still occur (SY uses of your personal information is based on our “legitimate interest”). In case you have agreed to receive marketing communications, we will retain your data until you notify us otherwise. If we have a publishing agreement with you, we will retain your data as long as necessary to fulfil the terms of the agreement and in keeping with any legal requirements.

How can I tell the SY I don’t want to be contacted to be a reviewer or an author anymore?
Simply log in to your account on our manuscripts and editorial dashboard to do this, see the Data Protection Settings link in Quick Links. You can unsubscribe yourself by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided in any other marketing e-mail in the future. If you were contacted outside one of these systems, please send an email to dataprivacy@openpublish.eu

Your Rights Regarding Personal Data (EU residents)

Under current law, you are entitled, mainly:
  • review if and what kind of your personal data we store and receive a copy of those data,
  • to request an amendment, correction, or the deletion of your personal data should they be incorrect or if they have not been processed in accordance with applicable law request to limit our processing of your personal data,
  • under certain circumstances to object to the processing of your personal data or to withdraw your previously given consent to the processing,
  • to know the identity of third parties to whom your data are being transmitted and to complain to the competent supervisory authority.

If you require information about data processing, have a request for correction or wish to delete your personal data, you can do so by sending an e-mail to radek@openpublish.eu. To prove your identity, please either send a digitally signed request or attach a scan of your ID to your request. Please indicate when and in what relationship you were connected with us, so we can properly gauge the scope and content of your request. Your right to deletion of data is limited by our "legitimate interest" based on legal retention requirements.
